Zinnia - White Star



The Zinnia White Star, 'Zinnia angustifolia', is unlike the Zinnia elegans. White Star Zinnias is a wonderful hanging basket flower. This is an exciting and unusual Zinnia and it is easy to grow. The Zinnia White Star is heat and drought tolerant. Along with its use in hanging baskets, it can be grown as an annual groundcover or used as a perennial in mild climates. The flowers are 1 inch wide pure white daisy-like blooms with yellow centers. The White star Zinnia will begin to bloom 6 weeks after planting and continue blooming into fall. Plant this Zinnia in full sun. It prefers rich, deep, well drained soils. Mix a high phosphorous, low nitrogen fertilizer into the soil. The Zinnia White Star is a low maintenance plant that should be deadheaded regularly. Plant in the spring after the last average frost date. Grass - Pony Tails The Grass Pony Tails, 'Stipa tenuissima', is very graceful with a soft fair-colored pony tail, This perennial will come back every year and bloom the first year. Pony Tails prefer full sun and well drained infertile soils. It is very drought tolerant, but even moisture produces the most flower heads.
