Viburnum - Maries Doublefile

Maries Doublefile Viburnum, viburnum plicatum 'Mariesii', is a beautiful flowering shrub with horizontal branching and a rounded growth habit. It displays creamy white flowers in spring that bloom for two weeks. Pollination (and subsequent heavy fruit set) might be encouraged by planting two or more different cultivars This shrub often does not set fruit due to a lack of appropriate cross-pollination, but when fruits do occur, they transition from green to pink-orange-red in mid-summer, mature to black by September, and then either shrivel up and drop, or are consumed by the birds. The dark green foliage turns red-purple in fall, and Maries Doublfile grows 8-10 feet in height and width. Best when used in mass plantings, hedge, or as an accent plant. It prefers full sun to partial shade and performs best in partial sun in evenly moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils; it is quite adaptable to soils of various pH. Viburnum are one of the most outstanding group of shrubs for use in the landscape planting because they are hardy and resistant to serious pests. ... additional information
