Sweet Pea - Ocean Foam
The Sweet Pea Ocean Foam, 'Lathyrus odoratus', is a special blend of heirloom old spice sweet peas that are highly scented and heat resistant. The Ocean Foam is a blend of navy, med-blue, light blue and cream colored 1 to 2 inch flowers. The sweet peas bloom in the spring and the duration of blooming depends on the weather. The plants stop blooming once the weather warms up. They will generally bloom 3 to 5 weeks. A key element in successful growing of the Sweet Pea Ocean Foam is very early planting. The sweet pea prefers deep, rich, fertile soil. Use lots of peat or compost for early spring planting. Plant this Sweet Pea in full sun, but in a cool a spot as possible. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent sweet pea pests. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. This snap bean is very resistant to rusts and mosaic virus. In addition, the pole snap beans will use less garden space by growing vertically on a pole, trellis, or teepee made of poles. Snap beans used to be called string beans, but most varieties today are stringless. The Pole Bean Kentucky Blue is an annual and is very frost sensitive. The Kentucky Blue has 6 to 8 inch, tender, dark green, round, straight pods. Plant after the last average frost date. Kentucky Blue beans prefer rich, organic, well drained, warm soils.
