Rose of Sharon - Minerva

Minerva Hibiscus, Hibiscus syriacus 'Minerva', is an upright shrub that exhibits large saucer shaped flowers that bloom from July until frost. The flowers are single, lavender colored, with a bold dark red center. It has a waxy dark green foliage and is valuable as a specimen plant. Minerva is easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade, but there is better flowering in full sun. It prefers moist, organically rich soils, but tolerates poor soils and some drought, and is very tolerant of summer heat and humidity. You may get larger flowers by pruning back hard to 2-3 buds in early spring, otherwise, just prune to shape. Minerva may be massed or planted in groups, but also makes a great hedge. It is a vigorous, erect, shrub that typically grows 5-8' tall, and has a long, early-summer to fall bloom period. ... get more information
