Peony - Bowl of Beauty



The Peony Bowl of Beauty, Paeonia lactiflora 'Bowl of Beauty' is a single bloom peony with rose colored blooms and creamy yellowish-white centers. Peonies are one of the best cut flowers and are often used in the Midwest to decorate gravesites on Memorial Day. All of our peonies are widely adaptable to most soils across the country. They bloom in mid to late spring and have very large, colorful blooms that stand out in the spring garden. Peonies can handle dry to moist sites, and do best in full sun but can handle some light shade. Often thought of as a plant used on the farm or out in the country, they bring a little bit of that country feeling to your garden. Hollyhock - Nigra The Nigra Hollyhock, 'Alcea rosea', has large single, very dark maroon to almost black flowers. (The darkest flower in this family). The Hollyhock family is made up of a rather large group that exhibits tall stature (4-6') and is biennial in nature. Although they are short lived, they reseed themselves. The large blooms of 'Chater's Nigra Hollyhock' flower in the summer months. Alcea is a wonderful plant near the back of the border, working great along walls or fences. They are best planted in full sun in a well-drained area.
