Oregano - Greek
The Oregano Greek, 'Origanum heracleoticum', will jazz up a multitude of foods. This is the true, culinary oregano not often found in seed packets. The Greek Oregano is prized by Italian chefs. This 2 foot wide by 2 foot tall plant has small white flowers. The Greek Oregano is considered the best variety for cooking and is also considered the hardiest and strongest oregano plant. In Greek and Roman times Oregano was used for medicinal purposes, such as a tea for coughs and asthma. Now the primary use is culinaryGreek Oregano combines well with olive oil, parsley, garlic, and thyme. It is great with tomatoes and Italian dishes, egg/cheese combinations such as quiches and omelets, salad dressings, marinated vegetables, roasted bell peppers, mushrooms, pork, poultry, onions, black beans, shell fish, and many other dishes. Sweet Pea - Pastel Sunset The Sweet Pea Pastel Sunset, 'Lathyrus odoratus', is an artist's palette of soft shades, including cream, almond, pink, lavender and white. The sweet peas bloom in the spring and the duration of blooming depends on the weather. They will generally bloom 3 to 5 weeks. The sweet pea prefers deep, rich, fertile soil. Use lots of peat or compost for early spring planting. Plant this Sweet Pea in full sun, but in a cool a spot as possible. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent sweet pea pests. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom. They are used for cut flowers, ground cover, fence and wall covering, and in large pots.
