Knautia - Burgundy Wine
The Knautia Burgundy Wine, 'Knautia macedonica', has brilliant burgundy to crimson-red pincushions on long stems. Create a sense of drama and mystery in your garden with "see-through" plants. These medium-tall plants in the front or middle of a bed will entice the viewer without completely obscuring the view beyond. The 2 inch flowers are pin cushion shaped. Vinca - Little Pinkie The Vinca Little Pinkie, 'Catharanthus roseus', is the perfect plant for that really hot and dry location. Little Pinkie Vincas are especially useful for the southern or desert climates or hard to maintain hot spots near a concrete or reflecting wall. It blooms best when other plants are hurting from the heat. Little Pinkies can be grown as a perennial in frost free winter areas. It readily reseeds itself and is very drought tolerant. The flowers are 1 to 1/2 inch phlox- like pink blooms with a dark center. Little Pinkie Vinca should be planted in well drained soils and in full sun or very light shade. This low maintenance plant prefers regular waterings in sunny hot locations. Plant this Vinca in the spring after the last average frost date. The Vinca Little Pinkie is used in containers, ground cover, and borders. This plant is also known as devil's eye or sorcerer's violet.
