Hosta - Sum and Substance
The Hosta Sum and Substance, 'Hosta', has large, rounded leaves with heavy puckering. This Hosta is slug resistant and a vigorous grower. The lavender flowers bloom from July to August, however, Hosta’s are not known for their flowers. With a plant height of 36” and a spread of 60”, Hosta’s provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage. Hosta ‘Sum and Substance’ needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained location. ‘Sum and Substance’ does require some sun to enhance its golden color. ‘Sum and Substance’ was named Hosta of the Year in 2004, and one can see why. Coneflower - Sunset The Coneflower Sunset, 'Echinacea purpurea', is an easy to grow flower that produces vibrant orange daisy-like flowers, overlapping one another. The center of this coneflower is brownish, making it different than the rest. Blooming from July to October and a major attractor to butterflies and bees and deer resistant, it is a must for any perennial gardens. With its dark green foliage, Echinacea ‘Sunset’ stands 24-30” high with a plant spread of 18”. For best results, plant in full sun in a well drained area.
