Eastern Whitebud



The Eastern Whitebud tree, Cercis canadensis alba, is best known for their profuse white pea-like flowers. The heart-shaped leaves of this redbud tree are 3-5" across and its fruit are brown flat pods about 2-3" long. The trunk of this small tree usually branches close to the ground resulting in a spreading flat-topped to rounded crown. Eastern Whitebud trees grow best in full sun to light shade with moist well-drained deep soil. American Elm The American Elm tree, Ulmus americana, is the largest and most wide spread elm tree in the United States. These Elm trees have a tall drooping crown growing above divided trunks which give the Ulmus americana a distictive vase-like appearance. This shade tree grows best on rich moist soils but will withstand less than optimum conditions. American Elm trees are used on lawns, shelterbelts, and as an ornamental. It grows rapidly and it is widely adaptable.
