Daisy - Shasta
The Daisy Shasta Alaska, 'Chrysanthemum maximum', is an easy to grow, long blooming, very hardy perennial. The large, single, 3 to 5 inch bright white flowers make for a beautiful addition to any perennial garden. The flowers have a distinct yellow center. The Shasta Alaska has a very long blooming period of 90 to 120 days, early summer to fall. It will bloom the first year if started early enough in the spring. . The Shasta Daisy prefers full sun but does well in partial shade in very hot climates. The Alaska prefers moist, rich, well drained soil and needs to be kept well watered. Cut spent flowers to encourage more blooms. Plant in early spring, 2 to 3 weeks before the average last frost date, or as late as 2 months before the first fall frost. Little Pinkie Vinca should be planted in well drained soils and in full sun or very light shade. This low maintenance plant prefers regular waterings in sunny hot locations. This plant is also known as devil's eye or sorcerer's violet.
