Chokeberry - Iroquois Beauty™ Black

Iroquois Beauty™ Black Chokeberry, Aronia melanocarpa 'Morton', is selected for its compact habit and three-season interest. Clusters of pretty white flowers in spring, abundant black berries in summer, and gorgeous wine-red fall color. It will slowly spread, and is great for massing. It is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Iroquois Beauty™ Black Chokeberry's best fruit production usually occurs in full sun. Fruits are sometimes used to make tasty jams and jellies. This compact shrub typically grows to 2-3’ tall and to 4-5’ wide and can be grouped or massed in shrub borders, small gardens or open woodland areas. Since it has the ability to withstand wet conditions, it is suitable for growing on the margins of ponds or streams. Plants have a wide range of soil tolerance, including these boggy soils. Iroquois Beauty™ Black Chokeberry is an excellent addition to naturalized areas where its suckering, colonial growth habit does not need to be restrained.
