Bur Oak



The Bur Oak tree, Quercus macrocarpa, is a long-lived majestic oak tree. It is also called the Burr Oak. The Bur Oak is a tall, fairly slow-growing, long-lived tree, highly desirable for windbreaks, shelterbelts and ornamental use. It has an impressive crown with a massive trunk, which makes it a picturesque specimen. Bur Oak trees adapt to various soils where other oaks may fail. Green Smoketree The Green Smoketree, Cotinus coggygria, is a deciduous shrub/tree. The branches are spreading, loose, and as wide as high. Green Smoketrees have bluish green, sometimes yellow like leaves. Their fall color is red-purple. This deciduous tree has showy pubescent pedicels and peduncles of flowers that provide the "smoke" appearance. Smoketrees like sun. It is a tough tree that is adaptable to widely divergent soils and pH ranges, and it is very drought resistant. It is a great accent tree.
