Bellflower - Canterbury Bells

The Canterbury Bells Bellflower, 'Campanula medium', has tall flower spikes with elegant, bell shaped flowers that will remind you of a storybook English cottage garden. This elegant tall plant is an excellent backdrop for your shorter annual and perennials. Bellflowers have 1 to 2 inch long bell shaped flowers in the colors of purple, violet, blue, lavender, pink, and white. The blossoms cover the tall flower spikes. They bloom spring to early summer for 3 to 6 weeks. Canterbury Bells prefer full sun but will grow and flower in light shade. They like rich, well drained soils that are kept well watered. Plant in late spring or early summer for bloom the second year. The Bell flower makes excellent cut flowers. ... get more information

Collards Collards grow under more adverse conditions, and are very tasty when cooked or when young leaves are used in salads. Collards are excellent when served with corn bread and fried green tomatoes. Plant in early spring, 3 to 4 weeks before last frost or in late summer, 10 to 12 weeks before first fall frost. In dry climates, water deeply once a week. The leaves of the collard can be harvested as needed.
