Basil - Napoletano



The Basil Napoletano, 'Ocimum basilicum', is one of the best basils available for eating fresh. The tender leaves are mild, sweet and tender in flavor. There is nothing like the smell of basil because the smell of basil is the smell of summer. There is no more useful herb and it is very fragrant. It is a good all "around basil" and it has very few pests. Basil is used in so many foods, it is hard to mention them all. It is used in Italian foods and pesto and pasta sauces. Fresh basil makes a nice tea, an excellent vinegar, and tastes great fresh with fish, poultry, rice, mild vegetables, eggplant and many others. Plant 1 to 2 weeks after the last average frost date. Tomato - Grape Juliet 6 to 9 tomatoes are produced on each of many grape-like clusters. Juliet is an intermediate tomato which means they continue to grow indefinitely until frost. In warm winter/hot summer areas, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for winter harvest. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week.
