Astilbe - Bridal Veil
The Astilbe ‘Bridal Veil’, Astilbe arendsii, is a colorful feathery flower with white blooms and lacy deep green on bronze-green foliage. The flowers contrast wonderfully with its dark green glossy foliage. Astilbe ‘Bridal Veil’ blooms in mid summer and is 28-30” tall and a plant width of 36”. Do not allow Astilbe ‘Bridal Veil’ to dry out. It is most successfully grown in a shady area but can tolerate some morning sun. A moist, well-drained area is key for this plant. In order to keep Astilbe looking good for the next year, do not cut it back in the winter, (the old foliage helps protect the plant from winter damage), but prune in early spring. Astilbe can be used as cut flowers, perennial borders or shade gardens with Hosta’s and Ferns. Astilbe is considered to be deer resistant and will attract hummingbirds. ... more
Hosta - Variegata The Hosta ‘Variegata’, Hosta undulata, has dramatic, narrow, lance-shaped wavy leaves with white centers edged in green, making it very striking. The Hosta flowers bloom from July to August, however, Hosta’s are not known only for their flowers. With a plant height of 18” and a spread of 24-36”, Hosta’s provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage. Hosta ‘Variegata’ needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained area. Hosta ‘Variegata’ was the 2000 American Hosta Growers Hosta of the Year, and one can see why. This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions, tubs and patio pots, and one of the most popular for landscape uses.
