Using Attractive, Versatile Paving Stones

November 25th, 2009 by Craig Johnson

When you start looking for ways to improve your home and landscape your yard, there are many different things you can do. One thing you need to consider using is paving stones. They can add an element of luxury and a beautiful finishing touch.

You can use these stones on any type of property. You can use your imagination to determine the design you want to make with the various shapes, finishes and colors. These stones will add a finishing look to your business or your home.

There is a special type of stone called interlocking pavers that can be used to pave special areas in your yard. The Romans used them during the Roman Empire over 2000 years ago. They were used to pave their roads, and many of these roads are still in use today.

Whichever type of stone you decide to use, they are extremely durable and long lasting. Once they are installed they are virtually maintenance free. They can be used immediately upon completion. The best thing of all is that if you need to do some type of work below the surface, you can simply remove the stones, do the work and replace them when you are finished.

These stones offer many different advantages. They have a slip resistant surface, a long life and they can flex without cracking. They are the perfect solution for areas that have problems with earthquakes or tremors. If one does break, all you have to do is lift it out, and replace it with another one. They simply sit on a base of sand.

Do you want to fix your driveway, patio or walkway in a way that will make it look special? These special stones will do the trick. They have become quite popular among Americans and Canadians in the past few years. You can use them for whatever size of area that you choose.

You can choose between two installment methods when you use these stones. One method uses mortar. The stones are set in mortar and then the mortar is put between them. This creates a hard surface, but leaves it fixed and non-flexible. This method is not the best, because it will cause the stones to crack.

The other type of installment doesn’t use mortar. A special sand base is prepared, and the stones are placed on top of it in the pattern that you have chosen. When the design is finished, dampened sand is poured between each stone to keep them in place. This creates a hard, flexible surface which is much more practical. This method allows you to replace stones in a simple manner.

When you search for a contractor to help you with your pavement project, make sure he is an authorized installer. He should be knowledgeable of the state installment requirements, and know the corresponding guidelines and recommendations.

When you decide to replace your cracked concrete, asphalt or dirt driveway, look into using these eye-catching paving stones. You’ll enjoy looking at the different finishes, colors and shapes. Select the one that you like best. The value of your home will rise significantly.
